  • Happy New Year!

2007 is upon us already... wow! I guess it's true when they say that time goes by faster the older you get!!! I received a beautiful little Serrissa for Christmas from Bonsai Brainiac. I was all excited a few days later when I spotted a bunch of small white flowers... only to find that they belonged to the chives a level lower! Oh well. ...

  • Ernie - Part II

Well, Ernie is here... some gusty winds and some rain, but we've seen worse in a normal summer thunderstorm! Schools are closed for the second day, and most businesses have declared it a "snow day." Since we didn't lose power, I think we'll sit around and watch some movies today. Tomorrow, things will be back to Business As ...

  • Ernesto...

One of the advantages of living in south Florida is the weather.  One of the disadvantages of living in south Florida is the weather.  Here's the storm track as of this morning: We have lived here for just over two years, and have already survived three fairly major hurricanes. Tonight is our first Bonsai Club meeting of the 2006, and on the schedule is a hands-on demonstration about junipers! Randy Brooks will be sharing his knowledge. So, I will probably wind up purchasing a juniper ...

  • Trimming Party...

For those of you who don't know, Bonsai Bruce lives in Palm Beach County, Florida. As of yesterday, we were expecting Hurricane Katrina to wreak some havoc in our vicinity. Fortunately for us, she decided to stay on a more southerly course, and except for some heavy rains and winds, we escaped unscathed. Why do I bother telling you this? Well, ...

  • Butchering Trees...

Had a wonderful visit with Bonsai Buddy, where I was given the opportunity to butcher some trees with my new tools! A few months back, while looking through a bonsai book, I saw a picture of a Cape Honeysuckle (Tecomaria capensis), in a semi-cascade style, and I thought it was magnificent. Bonsai Buddy presented me with a Cape Honeysuckle today, ...

  • First Garden Show...

Attended a Flower & Garden Show yesterday at Mounts Botanical Garden where I purchased a Desert Rose (Adenium obesum) for bonsai ($10), as well as an aloe vera plant and some epiphytes. I must have really been attracted to this plant... I went back to the booth five or six times before I finally took my wallet out and bought it!
