  • Seed trade!

I have a few Montezuma Cypress seeds to trade. Im looking for Taxodium distichum - Bald Cypress and am looking to trade off. I have about 50 seeds, and access to collect more. If there is anyone with bald cypress seeds interested in trading, or simply passing on if your have no need for a few...

  • Growing from seeds

i just bought 100 chinese elm seeds and i really dont have a clue what im doing. Ive read things that say sit the seed in water for 24 hours and stratify (put in the fridge?) for 90 days. Ive also read that i should sow the seed in autumn so it would have time to germinate before spring. As for...

  • My BC is now of Age

The BC I have grown since it was a mere twig has now produced two little cones....Sniff. Are they self pollinating, or does there have to be another one in proximity?

  • Self pollination by clones?

When we say that a tree is not self-pollinating, for instance the crabapple, can it be pollinated by one of its clones? A cutting or airlayer taken from the parent tree? Or does it have to be a slightly different cultivar to work? I have one crab that is slower to break buds than the others, and...

  • Is there any hope for these?

Hi everyone. I took 2 cuttings of red maples both from different places but both on the same day. After initially taking the cuttings I had them in water after dipping them in hormone powder. In my opinion, they were holding up pretty well as this picture shows... ...

  • Pomegranate: Airlaying or cutting

Hi all, I have a twisted pom about 3 ft tall. I plan to cut it down at the site trunk 2" diameter. Should I airlayer it or make a cutting? My friend told me that a large cutting of pom could be succeeded easily. Thanks. Bonhe

  • Some cold stratification help

Hello BTalkers This is my first winter as a Bonsai Fan and I have started several different types of trees from seeds (yes, I am crazy, I'm hooked) and everything seems to be going ok. To my surprise I have some seeds that are starting to sprout already. The Japanese and Tatarian Maple seeds....

  • Good source for IBA talc

Hello all. Just wondering if anyone here can suggest some good online retailers for IBA talc. The stronger stuff, in the ranges of 5000-10000 PPM. Local places (even nurseries, surprisingly) don't carry anything beyond your typical Take Root or Rootone. I'm always a little wary when it comes to...

  • Seeking Heavy-Duty seed tray with cover

In several books I've picked up recently, I see the authors using seed trays that look a lot sturdier than the flimsy ones I can find in nurseries or hardware stores in my area...not to mention their taller, vented lids. These look like you could drop a hammer on them and it would just bounce...
