For those of you who don't know, Bonsai Bruce lives in Palm Beach County, Florida. As of yesterday, we were expecting Hurricane Katrina to wreak some havoc in our vicinity. Fortunately for us, she decided to stay on a more southerly course, and except for some heavy rains and winds, we escaped unscathed. Why do I bother telling you this? Well, since my bonsai normally reside on a very small patio, they needed to be brought indoors for fear a strong wind would return them to the wild! Well, since we still have some strong rain and winds predicted for the rest of today, and since the bonsai were indoors, and since I now have all the tools etc. from my recent shopping spree... I decided today was definitely a day to trim!
Having transformed my dining room table into a bonsai bench, I took out the turntable to use for the first time. What a difference it makes, both in evaluating your tree, and in trimming! All five trees got a haircut - some more drastic than others. The most dramatic cut was on the Sweet Acacia, which was growing like a weed, and the least dramatic was on the Desert Rose, where I just removed a few of the larger leaves. I did spot some bugs on the desert rose; be sure to read how I handled that! And since I was taking pictures, I decided to show you how pretty the dendrobium orchid is right now... not bonsai, but beautiful!
