Dwarf Jade

(Portulacaria afra)

I acquired this plant at an auction held by my local bonsai club. It was my first meeting, I was a little nervous, but towards the end of the evening, this little guy just spoke to me! So I bid $10, nobody placed a counter-bid, and I won him.

Someone had obviously already begun some training, but this tree hadn't been shaped in awhile. I will probably continue to shape this one into a semi-cascade style.

On July 4th, 2005 at Bonsai Buddy's house, I trimmed this one a little.

This little guy looks more like a "real" bonsai than any other tree in my little collection so far! He seems to be very healthy, and is growing well. Here he is before his trim on August 26, 2005.

And afterwards:

My thought right now is to try to train that upright branch to come back toward the right. So maybe it won't be a semi-cascade!
