Japanese Hackberry

(Celtis sinensis)

Bonsai Buddy gave me this tree as a Christmas present in 2005. It was styled in what I think of as a Penjing style; a curved S-like look. When I first received it, it was all trunk and no leaves, and I was nervous that it was already dead, or that I'd kill it!

This Spring (2006) it proved to be quite healthy by growing like crazy! I've trimmed it twice already, including today (May 18, 2006) when I also repotted it into a shallow oval bonsai dish.
