  • black vs white pine

Hi: Another question, after 15 years I am an expert at killing trees. One thing has puzzled me however. I live in zone 5 heat sone 6, I can not for the life of me keep ponderosa and japanese white pine alive. I think it may just be that the summers are too hot and humid. I can however do...

  • Hemlocks similar to Larches?

Since there is a dearth of information published about hemlocks (I've only ever seen it one place: on the bonsai4me site), I'm wondering what more popular species they're most similar to. They're in the Pinacaea family, suggesting that they may be related to Firs, (true) Cedars, Larches, Spruces,...

  • Escambron

Anyone familiar with the Escambron? Just bought a bonsai of this species. It thrives in Puerto Rico. I would assume I would need to treat it similar to a tropical, but the source still has not responded as to the temperature tolerance for for this plant. Thanks. Laura

  • Ash juniper, J. ashei

I have become interested in the ash juniper. "It has low branches and a twisted trunk. ..." according to one internet source. It is a tree or large shrub, to 10 meters, round topped, not conical. More important, other than the many J. virginiana around, ash juniper is the nearest juniper that I...

  • Juniper berries - should I remove them?

Last spring the Chinese Juniper I bought at a local nursery the previous year had a crop of berries. Not being familiar with junipers, at first I thought it was some kind of disease or infestation! Heh. Anyhow, almost a whole year has passed and these berries are still on the juniper. Should...

  • Alligator juniper source

I have been looking online for alligator juniper, Juniperus deppeana. I've Googled time and again, and nothing but seeds and books. I have read of named varieties, so I think someone must be growing them for sale. But who? And who has them and would ship them? So I'm asking the tree experts how...
