I'm thrilled to announce that the Blog is officially LIVE!
Ashley Carrier's first article on Bonsai Tool Care is here. Thanks, Ashley, for contributing!
Last night was our Bonsai Club meeting, and a fellow named Mil Balfrey gave us a presentation on Sea Grape (Coccoloba uvifera) and Pigeon Plum (Coccoloba diversifolia) as bonsai. He brought in a number of examples to use in his lecture, and proceeded to trim several of them. While these are not my favorite trees for bonsai, it is amazing what can be done with them!
So... I'll bet your dying of curiosity to know what I won at this month's raffle! Well, I spent $5 for 6 tickets, and had two winners! There wasn't much on the raffle table this time, but I did win a beautiful light-blue glazed pot (rectangular, about 12" x 9" x 3") from China, and a small Crown of Thorns (Euphorbia milli, aka Euphorbia splendens). I had one of these when I lived in Houston, and loved it, so I think I'm going to keep it as a regular plant, and not as bonsai! Bonsai Buddy didn't win anything this time.
Next month, Ed Trout is sheduled to do a demonstration for our club, and in January, Ben Oki! Very exciting stuff!
Ilex Update: Ilex 1 has sent out lots of new shoots and leaves, while Ilex 2 looks exactly as it does in the pictures from last month! Unbelievable! They literally are bucket to bucket on my patio, and have received identical care.
